We got several inches of snow here last night, it is really beautiful. It is a dry snow, it is not nearly as slippery to walk or drive on as at home. Last night we went to the Aristocrat Bakery, which is my new favorite place in Semey. We had mushroom bread and rice pilaf for dinner and a peach turnover thing with something like bavarian cream in it for breakfast. SOOO good. For those of you waiting to travel to Semey, let me tell you- you will not starve. If anything, bring some bigger pants for the second half of the trip. We tried to go to the shooting range at the park yesterday, but it was closed (it is like an air gun- no real bullets). We ended up going to the Bazaar again and buying a few souveniers. We realized it was time to go when we couldn't feel our faces. For those of you who know us well, you know that it is a COLD day when it is too cold for us to shop. I tried to buy a hat at one of the hat stands, but unfortunately the one I picked up that I liked was actually the hat of the worker in the store. Oops! We went to an electronic store where Chris played rock band for a while with the workers- crazy American. Word from home is that the boys had a great time at Toby Mac, I wish we had been there. Tonight we will go bowling, I'm looking forward to that. One funny thing we found out today, is that Keira is in the "bird" room at the baby house. That was funny to us because her room at home is decorated in a pottery barn bird theme and I just bought a bird Christmas ornament at the bazaar yesterday.
Some fun facts about life in Semey:
-Our toilet has to have the button down for about 4 minutes to flush
-The toilet flusher is shaped like a ying/yang sign, only one side appears to do anything, when we asked the translator she said it was a chinese toilet, whatever that means!
-Our front door has locks like a vault at the bank, two for the outer door and one for the inner
-Today is a brown water day at our apt., the running water is the color of strong tea.
-All of the women walk down the street arm in arm
-There are stray dogs everywhere!
-Something here makes our coats smell like chinese food
-Toilet paper is green and apple scented

Hey guys, we're up and viewing your blog now and enjoying the updates! Sounds like there is a lot to do - the shooting park, video games and smelling your apple toilet paper and Chinese scented clothing. I'm sure you are getting updates on the internet - Florida defeated #1 Alabama in the SEC Championship game this evening. Looks like UF and OU in the championship game. Matt Simpkins, a 6-foot-9 freshman forward from Oakland, Calif., has been cleared to join the University of Memphis basketball team. Just keeping you posted on important world events. You guys are in our prayers.
